Hi,

I was hoping that some of you could help me decorate my living room by giving me some colour ideas and wallpaper ideas.

It’s around 6 metres long by 3 wide (so it’s rectangular in shape and very awkward!) I have a cherry floor down but have my heart set on oak so the scheme would have to go with the floor – other than that, please feel free to share your ideas!

I have attached a photo to give you an idea of what the room looks like – there is a door on the left and on the same wall is a radiator which I am considering moving to under the window.

Thanks guys

I have attached a photo to give you an idea of what it looks like – the re is a door on the left hand side and also a radiator on the same side

Despite your two windows, this room feels a little dark – probably because of the flooring and furniture. Your choice of wall colour is a little rich, so I would go for something a bit brighter such as an off white that doesn’t have too much cream in it.

The wallpapered wall looks great but again is a little dark and bold for this room so why not choose something lighter that will complement your new paint colour. Go for a smaller pattern too which will be less oppressive.

Lastly, if you don’t want to get rid of your sofas, I would suggest you lighten then a little with off white cushions – trying mixing different textures such as knits and silks.

Hope that helps.

Hello James,

I generally agree with Alexandra’s comments above, I find the main problem with this room though is that the focus is all wrong, the furniture arrangement in the space is so that the door becomes a focal point for the space, normally you would centre a room around a fireplace, picture position, or TV. I assume the photo is taken from the tv position

Your general idea of colour co-ordination seems to be really good but you may have fallen into the trap of being to restrictive with your colour pallete.
If you do go for a lighter oak floor this should help to brighten the space, a more vibrant colour on your main wall on the right hand side there would help, or patterned wallpaper.
You should co-ordinate your furniture with a single colour from the accdent wall. so if its say red, then go for a stripe fabric with a red line in it but some other colours too, this will give you greater options when co-ordinating the space.

You should check out my website: http://www.blinginteriorsdesign.co.uk especially the projects/moodboards section, you can also contact me directly if you would like to carry on this disscussion.

Hope I was of some assisstance.

Kind Regards

Agreed with both members..

Your arrangement of furniture , door and windows are not proper. So that your room is giving the small and tight room…
So arrange your room decor accessories…

As seen from pic, some light is needed, otherwise everything is fine.

I totally agree with “adamwilliams”. Lighting makes a big difference in how you feel about your home. If you are remodeling, interior design ideas for lighting require more planning, but are worth it for creating the home interior style and ambiance you want.

Along with paint selection, establishing a theme for your living room decor can create a unique atmosphere and ambiance in the room. A theme can be anything from “beach getaway” to a French-country look. Decide upon your theme before purchasing furniture and decorations or, if you already have some of these things in place, develop a theme based upon what you have available. The design of your house might help you decide upon your theme as well—for instance, if you have exposed wood beams in the living room, you might try rustic log cabin decor.
