I’d like to paint my front door grey and have recently seen a lots of doors near me that look quite elegant – I’m thinking Farrow & Ball type colour. However I can’t seem to find a colour card at my local DIY store that matches any of them. I’ve even taken the colour cards up to the doors to try and get a match. I get a feeling the greys have got a bit of green/blue in them.

Has anybody successfully found a grey that works for them?

Apologies if this is a really vague question but I’m hoping someone will say “Ah, I know exactly the colour it’s …..” :-)

Grey is a great colour to use for a front door but you’re right sometimes they can feel not like a true grey and even look purple in some lights.

I love Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe, Little Greene’s Dark Lead Colour and Pots of Paint Flaxen Grey.

The trick is to paint a A4 sheet using a tester pot and try hanging them on the front door to see which one you like.

Good luck!

Thanks Alexandra, the Dark Lead and Flaxen Grey were both almost identical to Dulux’s “Quartz Flint 1” so I got some of that mixed up and our door looks great now. Thanks again.
