Shandong Painted Blanket Trunk
Originating from the Shandong province of China during the 1860s, this Shandong Painted Blanket Trunk - as its name implies - was originally used to store linen.
It is crafted with a thick moulded base and panel that gives it a very sturdy look. There's also the beautiful circular hardware that's crafted from brass; a trademark in most Chinese furniture of the day.
This used to be a rick dark brown piece but over time, it has softened into a reddish brown with ample distressed details in certain parts. The original painting has also faded but you can still see traces of it in the front portion of the chest. It involves several figures including a small child and an elderly man while several other figures look on.
At the bottom portion, you'll also find beautiful paintings, mostly symbols. Overall, the trunk is in beautiful condition given its current age. In fact, if you love antiques, you'll adore this beautiful item.
