Before she studied furniture design at London’s Metropolitan university, Gala Wright read physics at Oxford University. This mixed background explains how her designs often elegantly animate mechanics, materials and geometry. While studying, she was hired by Habitat to work on their VIP range and helped turn the VIP vision into tangible objects. In the meantime, the Italian manufacturer Coro added the Loop Lounger to their range, and it remains their best seller four years later.
In 2005 she formed Viable London design studio with Charles Trevelyan and Magnus Long. Since forming, the studio has exhibited extensively internationally and with the Design Museum in London. Viable London continue to build relationships with British and European manufacturers as well as produce award-winning products, most recently the OTT hooks.
